AussieVelo National Cycle Touring Routes

These routes are in first draft form, and  comment is sought from interested persons to better delineate the  routes, and potentially suggest additional National routes. A guide to  National route requirements is provide on the 'Routes' page.

 

The proposed AussieVelo National routes are:

  1. Circumnavigator  (red); circumnavigates the Australian mainland and Tasmania, generally  following the coast, and on quiet roads where possible.
  2. Adelaide - Darwin (orange); travels north-south through Alice Springs. A Regional route will connect to Uluru and Kings Canyon.
  3. Sydney - Canberra - Melbourne (dark green); travels near the Hume Hwy and provides connection to Victoria's alpine rail trails.
  4. Sydney - Adelaide (yellow); travels through central and outback NSW, Broken Hill, and Barossa Valley wineries.
  5. Brisbane - Adelaide (purple); following much of the Darling River.
  6. Brisbane - Perth (brown); the 'extreme' route traveling east-west through central Australian deserts.
  7. Canberra - Adelaide (sky blue); following the Murray River.
  8. Canberra - Darwin (light green); through Lightning Ridge, Longreach and Mt Isa.
  9. Alice Springs - Broome (dark blue); another extreme route through the Tanami Desert.
